Q&A
Leara Macfayden Asks:
Mr. Gamemaster Sir, your sight is very helpful, what games would you recomend, or rather are your favorite that
provide actual challenge?
I prefer puzzle games that make me think. Such games are like that of the Sim Theme Hospital. Most peolp call these games
Real Time Action Strategy, but I consider them to be actual puzzle games. These games make me think of new ways to build
a hospital or theme park and improve my inquisitive nature.
Though I am a true fan of RPGs and will always be. While there are no puzzles these provide the most challange
to me because trying to stick with a game for a few months is difficult. I play RPGs in a slow manner os that I may enjot
them.
You also have games like Resident Evil, but the puzzles are quite easy. I usually paly these type game for a
cheap thrill.
I like Super Smash Brothers Melee Because it make me have to do more than press one button again and again.
I would recomend Skies Of Arcadia for and RPG fan. This game take a new twist on an RPG, origonaly a DreamCast
game but good enough to make it to PS2 and Gamecube. I would say rent it first and then buy it.
For action/horror go Silent Hill 1,2, or 3. SUre to make you play in the dark and with all the lights on. The
puzzles can be tricky at times but in the end a good scare is woth it.
pirate54 asks: hey man,
I really hope YOU can help me cause I'm beginning to lose hope. I've been renting games a lot lately and it seemes like
every other PS2 game I rent wont work. I have a brand new memory card and a slightly used controler, Dualshock 2, but a lot
of these games won't start up cause I can't get past the screen that keeps telling me that neither my controller, nor my memory
card are plugged in. This, like I said, happens on about half the games I try so I figure it cant be the card or controller...WHAT
IS IT?! It's driving me CRAZY!! Please Help! I would REALLY appreciate it.
Answer: Universal PS2 help
I recieved your email and may be able to shed some light on the subject. I would try the following.
-try holding down all the buttons on the control while the memory card is removed. Sometimes the PS2 and in some cases
the PS1 controlers become uncalibrated. by holding all the buttons down you are telling the system to revert to default PS2
controler configuration. If this works you saved $100.00, tell you why at the end.
-try unplugging the PS2 completely and let it set for 10 seconds. Sometime the internal memory manager glitches up and
a memory card can make the system act funky. Also saved $100.00 if this worked.
-Get some canned air or blow in the controler and memory card ports, sometimes hair and dust can fill the tiny holes that
make the connections and block access to game play. saved $100.00 if this worked.
-Repalce the controler or memory card. If you have a friend that can loan you a controler and another memory card see
if the accesorys you have are just factory defects. Also a button may be stuck on the PS2 controler.
-The Memory card may have been magnatized causing system boot up failure.
-Try cleaning the CD read lense on the PS2 a $5 Lense cleaner for a DVD lense might fix the problem.
-Try oto start the game with no controler and no memory card and then see if the game starts. If it doesn't then you
may have a serious issue on your hands.
Worse Case:
Some of the interior PS2 components may have been damaged. Licence you PS2 by calling 1800-345-SONY
this is the tech support line. They will tell you the same I have but they give you the option to send it in for repairs.
Nice little trick though, if your PS2 was never certified you can regester it and say you just got it and when you send the
PS2 in for repairs the PS2 is considered under warrenty so you may have to pay nothing. If you have registered your PS2,
then the repairs may cost around $100.00 and that's where the "you saved $100.00" thing comes in to play. The
PS2 should be repairable though. So don't trash it yet. Hope this helps.
